The Simplicity Project

When I started to get interested in knives, my focus was not on handmade knives, that I didn´t even know back them, but the old knives of my region, the Soroabanas. Many time I found knives that were being used by the same family for two, three, even four generations! These were, usually, handmade knives or knives made by a group of artisans , each one working on one part of it – think this would be called benchmade nowadays – and these knives are aways highly praised by its owners. What makes them so appreciated was not just the fact that “it belonged to grampa” – people liked them because, year after year, they were still efficiently performing their jobs. These knives usually have a simple design and little or no decorative touches- if present, these never interfere with the knives´ functionality. Later I found the same concer with performancer on several other antiques from all over the world – khukuris, Gaucho knives, several folders from France, Italy and England and also the Scandinavian knives from where I have drawn a lot of inspiration, just to name a few. Some are more versatile, other very specific but all were created to be used in a time that a good quality, reliable blade was an everyday need and that could, eventually, be the diference between life and death – the marks we see on remaining pieces leave no doubt about the hard use they were submitted to.

Eventually I come to know the world of modern custom knives, become a knifemaker and now, with my Simplicity line I pay hommage to all those humble blades and their makers wose names have mostly been long lost in time. Like those, these are made to be used and their main goal is to offer their owners a tough, versatile handle, a safe and efficient sheath and a blade that will CUT A LOT AND FOR A LONG TIME. If this is what you look for in a knife, along with a realy affordable price, these are THE KNIVES YOU WANT. Since their introduction, back in 2009, these knives ave been amassing a considerable group of followers - there are Simplicity knives spreaded from the Extreme South of Brazil up to Canada and from Hawaii to Austria and they already have become synonimous of “reliable tools” – reliable and SHARP tools!
